UVC Air Purifier Panel Light Fixtures

1. What is a UVC Air Purifier Hybrid Light Panel Fixture

A UVC air purifier panel light fixture is a hybrid unit utilizing a standalone UVC deactivation chamber with airflow technology in conjunction with a LED-backlit flat panel light fixture. We call our fixture Cluvaire, which stands for Clean UVC Air Sanitizing Luminaire. However, with our hybrid approach to the system, it can be used with or without the backlight flat panel. The benefit of that is if you do not have a 2×4 or 2×2 fixture in the ceiling but have linear fixtures or pendants, this unit can be added to the application as a separate standalone system using the UVC deactivation equipment we provide.

2. How does a UVC Air Purifier Work to Sanitize the Air

How UVC Air Purifier Panel Lights work to sanitize the air

A UVC air purifier sanitizes the air or deactivates the mold, viruses, or bacteria airborne by drawing air into the system, passing through the UVC light chamber, then expelling the clean air down into the room. So as the air gets drawn into the chamber, we have the proper fluence intensity which is the time it takes to deactivate pathogens and expel the clean air back into the room.

With proper installation, the unit utilizes the current airflow from the established HVAC system and creates an airflow where the pathogens are rising up into the air. They get sucked into the fixture and then put back down towards the floor. So clean air is constantly being circulated down back toward the floor where people are talking and working.

3. Where can UVC Air Purifier Panel Lights Be Used Safely?

UVC Air Purifier Panel Light Fixture

Our UVC air panel light fixtures can be used in schools, banks, restaurants, retail stores, airports, transportation facilities, doctor and medical offices, dentists, reception areas, lobbies, hallways bathrooms, break rooms, offices, bullpens, meeting rooms, and dining areas, among others. Now, what you want to think here is a lot of the buildings back in the 40s 50s 60s 70s, even to this day, have zero airflows from the outside besides the main door, the windows are all sealed. You can’t crack them open to get fresh air in and it’s all reliant on the established HVAC system to pump in the air.

Due to the lack of fresh air and long turnaround time for air exchange through the standalone HVAC system, adding in the supplementary UVC air panel lights allow you to increase the chances of deactivating the pathogens, viruses, mold, and airborne bacteria. There are no additional costs to your HVAC system, as it is completely separate. The panels can be easily installed into a 2×2 or 2×4 grid ceiling. Surface mount kits are also available for drywall ceiling applications.

4. What are some advantages of using Louvers International UVC Air Purifier Panel Light Fixtures?

UVC light is proven to eliminate airborne viruses mold and bacteria our proprietary multipass system for a high UVC dosage of incoming air to meet the proper fluence intensity to deactivate the viruses, mold, or bacteria. The Louvers International UVC Air Purifier panel light fixtures can do up to 125 cubic feet per minute filtered. One unit can be used in a 500-square-foot area with an 8-foot tall ceiling.

We use 36-Watt Philips germicidal UVC lamps with a peak wavelength of 253 nanometers for disinfection. Philips is the leader in germicidal ultraviolet technology. So, we decided to use the existing platform and put it in there. The UVC lamp life is 9000 hours which is good for one year at 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There’s also a lamp life monitor that alerts you at the end of life with an indicator light on the outside of the fixture.

  1. This is a reliable solution for consistently safe air.
  2. It’s economical as it works with new or existing light panels already installed in the infrastructure.
  3. You do not have to use this unit with a light fixture. If you don’t use it with the light fixture, you do is take the existing 2×2 or 2×4 ceiling grid tile and put that in the bottom of it instead of the light fixture.
  4. It’s low maintenance as it only requires about once annually lamp change in the UVC and unit cleansing.
  5. There’s low power usage of only 36 watts on the actual UVC lamp itself, plus the additional wattage coming from the light fixture.
  6. We offer a two-year replacement warranty on the UVC portion of the unit and a one-year lamp warranty.
  7. This fixture is designed for ease of installation into the existing infrastructure. You can use the existing backlit or flat panel fixtures and install it into our unit. Or you can just install the UVC air purification part if you have linear runs of lights or ceiling-mounted runs of lights in your location.

CLUVAIRE UVC Air Purifier Panel Light 2x25. How are the Louvers International UVC Air Purifier Light Fixtures different from others on the market?

Since COVID hit about two and a half years ago, there was a big rush into developing UVC light fixtures and products whether it be surface deactivation, or upper room, UV germicidal irradiation. Some companies came out with options right away. However, we took a back seat and took the time to develop a great solution that incorporates a lot of different features into one.

As you’ll notice, our UVC air sanitizer hangs below the ceiling grid and sucks air across, and puts it back down towards the floor. There are other fixtures out there that do the same thing. However, those typically are above the ceiling grid and suck air up, pass through, and then back down. With our fixtures being below the ceiling grid tile, we are able to benefit from being more exposed in the room, taking in more air, and cleaning it than would be on other units out in the marketplace.

It’s also completely safe as UVC is chambered inside the fixture with no chance of exposure to human eyes or skin. This is great news because our fixtures can run while people are in the room. Other companies may have jumped the gun and invested too heavily in it early and were not able to produce the number of orders due to the cost of using some of the technologies implemented in their designs.

With our background in developing light fixtures and teaming up with our engineers that have produced UVC germicidal products before, we were able to derive a nifty unit that can be installed in every type of application.

Our goal is to provide a very value-based product and deliver the utmost clean air possible to the given application.

We want our kids back in school and our teachers to feel safe and limit the exposure risk to all parties involved.

6. How are UVC Air Purifier Panel Lights installed?

The UVC Air Purifier Light Fixture units are wired up on the same circuit as the light fixtures or wired into the same junction box as the other light fixtures on the light switch. When someone comes into the room, they turn on the lights. The UVC activation will start going. You don’t have to run these units all the time. They can just be run to when people are in the room when it’s needed.

Other systems like HVAC are running 24/7 with additional costs and burning lamp life hours or decreasing the LED efficiency over time. We chose to go with the UVC lamp as it is easily replaceable and serviceable for a reasonable cost of about $15 to $20 per lamp, which is rated for 9000 hours. LEDs have come a long way. However, their efficiency drops off after about 1000 hours of use typically. So if the unit is being run 24/7, the efficiency of the LED is going to go down and your deactivation rate and fluence intensity will have to change and adapt on the fly as the intensity from the LEDs are not prevalent anymore. And on top of it, the UVC LEDs are very costly themselves.

7. How are UVC Air Purifier Panel Lights better than traditional HEPA Filtration Systems?

The UVC air panel lights are better than HEPA filters because you do not have to constantly change out the filters, which can be expensive and frequent. It’s also added to the HVAC system where there’s no HEPA filter involved. UVC is lethal to airborne pathogens like viruses and eliminates rather than trapping them in a filtration system. So, we just get rid of the pathogens when a HEPA filter system traps them in the filters.

We use a Philips germicidal ultraviolet light technology in each one of our air purification panel lights. They work well with existing panel infrastructures, or with anything that exists as it taps right into the existing ceiling grid. We have low maintenance costs. The units only require one annual lamp change and unit cleaning per year. The lamp is rated for 9,000 hours. So, if you run it 24/7, you’ll need to change that lamp within one year. We do have an indicator light on there that monitors the time the lamp is on as well. You will be notified when it’s time to replace the lamp. We have low power usage using only 36 watts for the Philips UVC germicidal lamp.

8. How do UVC Air Purifier Panel Lights Solve Cross Flow Air Transmission Infections

UVC Air Purifier Solution for Cross Flow Infection

Crossflow air transmission is when moving air from one side of the room to the other increases the infectious airborne transmission by pulling air directly across from an infected individual to an uninfected individual. Crossflow air transmission infections can occur even if the source of airflow is from a sanitized air system because the contamination source is in the room.

Now imagine this when you have the HVAC blowing down into the room pushing air down. Usually, they come from the sides of the higher areas of the wall or above the ceiling pushing that air down, then usually the air gets sucked back through a return in the wall somewhere across the room creating crossflow air.

The solution is the UVC air panel where in-room multiple point air sanitization is more important than the ACH UVC air sanitizers positioned above the occupied areas. The UVC air panel will create positive pressure sanitized air zones that can reduce airborne person-to-person transmission. It also works in conjunction, but separate from, the current HVAC systems. The units use the existing light fixture locations and wiring. The number of units does not change the room lighting level. The units are easy to install, offering low installation costs and a low annual maintenance parts cost.

10. What is Upper Room Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI)

According to the CDC, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is the use of ultraviolet energy to kill viral bacterial and fungal organisms. UVGI fixtures produce UVC energy, which has shorter wavelengths and most penetrating UVA and UVB rays and poses less risk to human health. Upper Room UVGI refers to a disinfection zone of UV energy that is located above people in the rooms they occupy. This kills airborne pathogens in the room when they are released. Fixtures are installed to prevent UV exposure to people in the room.

Air passes through the disinfection zone from flowing air flowing through HVAC system fans or open windows. The airborne pathogens are killed once they receive an appropriate amount of UV energy. The particles remain in the air but they’re no longer infectious. For airborne viral particles, upper-room UVGI systems provide air changes per hour that are similar to the introduction of clean air into the space
